5/26/2023 0 Comments Hail mary book review![]() I felt impressed with myself for being smart enough to understand the inner workings of astrophysics…then realized it wasn’t me, it was Weir’s phenomenal writing! □ Weir has a way of writing about hard core space science in a way that is very easy to follow and understand. I’m on a trip with my kids, so I was forced to read this in 5 minute increments, but I found myself aching to get back to it! Who knew space travel and tiny particles of alien life could be so interesting? Apparently millions of people because the book has rocketed to the top of all the notable best seller lists. ![]() Good news: I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this book. Additionally, I really enjoyed “The Martian,” (movie) based on book of the same name, also by Andy Weir. I picked it up because of all the surrounding hype. ![]() It’s sci-fi space realism with a dash of humor. Y’all, this book was so far out of my reading comfort zone…like totally opposite of something I’d normally read. ![]() 5/26/2023 0 Comments Glint the plated prisoner![]() ![]() She has always believed he is her protector – but what if she is really his prisoner?Īuren’s awakening will divide more than one kingdom. The parallel is very direct Louisa’s accident is recounted in a foreword, just as Will’s is. The first of these comes right at the beginning of the novel Louisa accidentally falls off her roof and for a moment thinks she is paralyzed, like Will before her. “Give me the end I’m hoping for,” he says. ![]() You have no idea how happy that has made me.” Will wants to die not because he is sad, but because he won’t accept the limited life he has, and the prospect of things getting worse. “I’ve watched you these six months becoming a whole different person,” he tells Louisa, “someone who is only just beginning to see her possibilities. Louisa, for her part, helps Will to overcome his self-centeredness, his bitterness, and even his depression. ![]() Over the course of the book, Will opens Louisa’s horizons: to opera (shades of Pretty Woman), travel, and her own potential. Will, before his accident, was, in his own words, a self-centered “arse” and a callous womanizer after his accident, he is consumed with bitterness. Louisa at the start of the novel is a lower-middle-class woman afraid to dream beyond her small English town and bland, exercise-crazed boyfriend. Even beyond the damaged hero, though, Me Before You functions as a romance because it’s about two people falling in love, and becoming more complete, and more themselves, while doing so. ![]() 5/26/2023 0 Comments Chasing cassandra by lisa kleypas![]() ![]() Lisa made us wait til we were chomping at the bit. ![]() While their connection was explosive and it would catch both of them off guard, it was a bit of a slow burn as well. She was a bit self conscious and he made her feel beautiful inside and out. But he has no idea what’s headed his way. When she’s caught up in a scandal, that was not her fault, Tom steps in in the hopes that he can help her by being a friend. She brings ideas about his life that he didn’t think would happen to him. She makes him think of things he never would’ve before. ![]() He claims that he doesn’t feel love but the more he sees Cassandra the more he realizes he might be wrong. Practically every scenes with Bazzle/Basil had me melting. His scenes were some of the sweetest one from the book. That is until she set her eye upon Tom Severin. She’s received numerous proposals but no one gave her butteries in her belly. The family of characters are so much fun to watch! Chasing Cassandra was probably the sweetest by far.Īfter the wedding of her sister, Cassandra starts to worry that she’ll never have a marriage based on love, which is what she wants. Her Ravenel series is one of my favorites. And I definitely love historical romances written by Lisa Kleypas. You know I love me some historical romances. ![]() 5/26/2023 0 Comments Ready player two![]() ![]() The higher your expectations, the more you're setting yourself up for disappointment. ![]() I know from my own experience - like with the Star Wars prequels - that expectations are often resentments waiting to happen. It did give me a huge amount of anxiousness going into writing it. ![]() I had to then stop and do and now I've been working on it nonstop for the last two years. So it was hard to think about anything else once I was there. It was also great because I was in the Stacks - on the set of the movie - in this recreation of things from my imagination. So that motivated me and it was great because as we were finishing the movie, Steven started to ask me questions about what the sequel might be about so he could get that into the ending of the first movie. And if there's no book to base the sequel on, then that won't stop them. Also, I knew then there was like a ticking clock because if the movie does well, then they're going to want to make a movie sequel. That's when I started to really write the sequel. I don't think I really started writing until they started production on the movie, which got me back into living in the world of Ready Player One. As I was finishing the first book, and I knew the first book was going to be published, ideas started to formulate in the back of my head. ![]() ERNEST CLINE: I tried to set up the possibility of a sequel when I wrote the first novel. ![]() 5/26/2023 0 Comments Crank palace paperback![]() ![]() ![]() He will try to fulfill a new-found destiny before his path leads to its inevitable conclusion-and one last meeting with his best friend. No one wants potential new readers turned off by starting too early in the series, before Pratchett fully found his voice. That lack of consensus can be intimidating to new readers, but at least the fans have good intentions: They're just trying to protect newcomers from possible tripwires. ![]() All Pratchett fans have their favorites and least-favorites in the series, and the debate can get contentious - or devolve into thoughtful disagreement that leaves newbies looking over dozens of well-justified, conflicting opinions, with no clearer mandate than they had going in. The stories use fantasy tropes to explore real-world issues with a lively, mordant humor, but with plenty of drama and horror as well. Pratchett wrote more than 70 novels, but he was primarily known for the Discworld, a magical-medieval setting he explored across 40 novels and a dozen ancillary books, over the course of more than 30 years. I’m only saying this because in her newer series its like a whole series in one book with one couple. I would say the only bad thing is that the whole story is spanned across five books instead of being different characters in each book. I just got so sucked up into it, and that was the only thing I could think of for the next coming week.
